What does an EICR cover?
An Electrical Installation Condition Report records findings from an agreed inspection and testing of an existing installation. Its extent and limitations matter: inaccessible parts and any agreed exclusions should be recorded, not assumed to have been checked. Discuss the consumer unit, circuits, accessories, property use and available previous reports when booking.
The report records observations and recommendations based on the inspection. A report is not a promise that every possible fault has been found or that the property will never develop a fault.
Access and preparation
Arrange access to the board and the rooms or equipment included in the inspection. Discuss power interruptions, tenants, keys, parking and equipment that depends on a continuous supply. Share previous reports and details of recent alterations if available. The inspector can then explain the proposed inspection and any practical limits before starting.
The report and any remedial work
Ask for the EICR and its inspection and test schedules, with an explanation of findings and recommended next steps. Repairs are not automatically included in the inspection price. Any remedial work is discussed and quoted separately before it starts. Where a dangerous condition is found, the electrician explains the immediate action needed.

EICR or Electrical Installation Certificate?
An EICR reports on an existing installation's condition. An Electrical Installation Certificate documents relevant new installation work. If you need paperwork for recent work, explain what was installed and who carried it out rather than booking an EICR as a substitute.
How an EICR quote is prepared
Property type, size, circuit arrangements, access, available records and the agreed extent of testing affect the quote. No universal EICR price range has been confirmed. A quote that does not need a visit is free. Where attendance is needed, the call-out is £50 plus VAT (£60 total), with the remaining work quoted before starting.

What details are needed for an EICR quote?
Provide the property type, approximate size, postcode, access arrangements and any previous report. Mention tenants, business use and equipment that cannot lose power without planning.
